Kate Plus 8 is BACK!

cupcakeMAG gives you scoop with all things Kate and just how FABulous she is!
Check out the one on one chat with Kate Gosselin!

{All images courtesy of TLC}
On Monday, April 4 at 10pm, TLC brings back all-new episodes of KATE PLUS 8. Excited yet? We are thrilled. The hour-long premiere episode follows Kate and her eight as they travel 21 hours across the globe to Australia – the longest flight they’ve ever taken. Read on to see what they have been up to as they have never stopped filming. Get to know Kate a little more - from her pet peeves to her style - Kate gives us a second look at her life.

In our interview we learned that Kate is only human as she confess to us that "My house is always somewhat 'clutter controlled', my bedroom/office is my 'dumping grounds' as I call it. It's always in half packed to go away mode and half unpacked mode... It's atrocious and I long for help in that arena...disturbing even on its best days..." She also filled us in our her newest pet peeves, " toys, snacks, cups, school paraphernalia, etc. rolling around my vehicle while driving" and like us, she probably couldn't survive without her iPhone. Kate is seriously an amazing mother and we were thrilled that she had a chance to fill us in on life. We just adore Kate and her amazing 8!

1.) We have to say -- we missed YOU and are thrilled that Kate Plus 8 is back for a 2nd season. What can we expect to see this season?

We've not stopped filming at all so our crazily wonderful schedule has never missed a beat, but you can expect lots of travel to amazing places, some helping others, local history/education... Fun, fun, fun and lots of kid noise and mom's loud voice, as always! :)

2.) Your latest book, I Just Want You to Know, how did that come about? It will be great for your kids to read and look back on one day. We loved the format of how you wrote it.

I Just Want You To Know was the combining of my journal I kept nearly daily while still married and before (Jon &) Kate plus 8 was a household name. It describes my struggles of that time with 8 young kids. Also laced into the book is a personal letter to each of my kids that describes them, my unique love for them, my challenges to them and my dreams for each of them. Overall, it's my favorite book I've written (on my own on my iPhone as I was traveling, no less) of my three. It's timeless and true and has surprisingly inspired moms all over to write a love letter to each of their children! Not intended, but a wonderful outcome!

3.) Over the years we have watched how organized you are and really, have to be. What suggestions do you have or what are some of your favorite tips to keep things organized?

Do it now! If something needs to be labeled, taken care of, etc, do it now or at very least, keep a running to do list and make sure it gets on it now. My list is in the notes section of my iPhone and I have each week on it's own page with each date listed and things that need to get done on it daily (this mag interview was on today's list) as well as Target, Whole Foods list etc. I make lists! End of organizational story.

4.) You are constantly on the go and always look so well put together. What is your go-to outfit?

Aww, thanks. I go to: Jeans, a cute top and earrings and heels. Done.

5.) Back to Kate Plus 8! How has the show changed?

Other than the obvious changes, the kids are growing up, developing friendships and schedules of their own, opinions, love of travel and knowledge and our life stress is changing in nature but constant so there's still lots of drama! Hopefully someday, you'll see me dating (gulp!) at some point... I'm moving towards considering a possibility of re-entering that world of dating... Maybe! {lol}

6.) Are you glad to have the film crew back? I am sure the kids love having them!

They've never gone and yes, we indeed love our friends.

7.) You are one busy momma + have taught so many how you can balance + be a super woman. What's up next for you?

Currently I'm holding steady. However, I'm open always for more fun (I consider work fun... Love what I do!) and different new experiences in the media/TV world. I feel comfortable in my career and am constantly challenging myself to do more and do it well-- to the best of my ability! So, we shall see what 2011 brings my way!

And lastly, get to Kate a little more! Read on to see just what who her latest love is....

Likes: My dog Shoka -- I'm totally in love with him now (we got off to a rough puppy start but since getting him back, we are ALL in love with him). Very lucky he is part of our family. He absorbs worry and gives unconditional love!

Dislikes: decaf coffee, cold coffee, coffee that is so strong I choke!

We seriously adore Kate (we need TEAM KATE shirts around here!) and can't wait for Season 2 of Kate Plus 8! Set your DVR's now and remember to watch Kate Plus 8 on TLC this Monday, April 4th! Check your local listings so you don't miss it!

Does your BOOTY need some BLING? We got you covered! Giveaway too!

We have gotten the perfect little something for your booty. Yep, we said it. Star Candy brings you the fabulous line of cute little underwear - they truly are"blinging out on booty at a time". We LOVE. Why else are we just simply in love with this line? The designer & CEO, Marisa is just a doll! We envy her for coming up with such a brilliant idea for the booty. Star Candy is the MVP (Most Valuable Panty) in our panty drawer. As for Marisa, well she has so much passion for what she does - we had to share our chat with you! Did we say how much we LOVE her?

{Marisa at the Golden Globes Gifting Suite}
{1} Tell us about the brains behind the blingin' booty, YOU!

I was born and raised in Los Angeles. I grew up dancing ballet which taught me a lot of discipline & probably had something to do with my love of bling and glitter. I was a dancer for 14 years. The highlight of it all was dancing The Nutcracker with The Los Angeles Ballet Company at The Dorothy Candler Pavillion at The Music Center in Downtown Los Angeles. During high school I took honor's classes, was on the drill team, and became a cheerleader. After graduating high school I went on to attend the Universtity of Southern California and graduated with a degree Business Marketing from the USC Marshall School of Business.

{Marisa and her hubs, Rich at  the American Music Awards Backstage Gifting Suite}
{2} Tell us about your baby, Star Candy.

Star Candy is for the cool and confident girl who is fun and flirty. She likes to be noticed and enjoys having a little secret to surprise someone with. The undies are comfortable enough to wear daily, but could also be worn for a night out on the town.

I want women of all ages to embrace their flirtatious side, but also maintain complete confidence and comfort. When you are able to be comfortable and sexy, confidence always follows. It is so important for women to have a strong foundation of self confidence, so my goal was to create a collection of underwear that would inspire women to feel at ease in their own skin and exude self confidence as well as a splash of sex appeal.

{3} When did you realize you wanted to bling out America? Like you said, "one booty at a time!" When did the idea come to you?

It's actually a funny story. I used to do custom bling for private clients. I would decorate cell phones, belt buckles, t-shirts, & even door knobs once. I love to make rhinestone designs. One day I went downtown to this store that would let me use their heat press. I made a small design, but forgot my t-shirt. Luckily I still had some booty shorts in my car from my shopping spree the day before. So when I went out to look for the t-shirt I found the booty shorts. I figured why not just put the design on some underwear. It was literally one of the only things I had not bedazzled before. So I brought in the pair of undies (freaking out the 16 year old boy who did the heat press) and asked him to press my design on the underwear. I wore them the next day and my husband reaction was priceless. "What are those? Those are so cute!!" and that is when I decided that I was going to Bling Out America One Booty at a Time.

{4} What exactly goes into your design process?

The brainstorming process of Star Candy is never ending, It is always fun and there is no telling when a great idea might come up. Many times I will wake up and jot down some notes or a rough design and ask my husband how this would be on my booty. Once a design or phrase is selected I begin (my specialty) laying the stones and creating it by hand. Each rhinestone is set down one at a time. Once the design is finished I will press it onto the color panty I feel it should be on. After some samples are finished I like to have a little party with some friends and make it an informal focus group. The best focus session was at a happy hour with my girlfriends. One of the girls asked a group of guys what they thought of the new items, they loved them, and she got a date with the cutest one. We all agreed STOP STARING had to go to manufacturing.

We spent 1 1/2 years perfecting the fabric and making sure we had the best stones. We definitely wanted to deliver the highest quality possible. I lay the original design by hand and then send it to a factory to be mass produced. The manufacturer maintains our high standards and knows that I will not hesitate to refuse an order if it is not perfect.

{5} What is your favorite item?

I love them all but, I have 2 favorites. First is our original pair that says "WANTED" on the booty and has the pistols on the front in bright fuchsia. This is our signature pair and the one that started Star Candy. My other favorite item, which is a celebrity favorite in Hollywood, is the Skull T-Shirt. A girl can't live in panties alone!

{6} When you aren't designing your next pair of bedazzled undies, what can we find you doing?

When not working, you can usually find me at the mall. I pretty much live and breathe fashion.

I am a TOTAL animal lover. I spend time between a couple shelters volunteering and sharing my love for all the cute little furry guys. I do other charitable work for various LA based organizations. I help mainly with event planning and production.

I love to hang out with my girlfriends or double date with the hubbies. Friends are very important to me. We are lucky to be in Southern California where the weather allows us to enjoy the outdoors and my husband's BBQing. Cooking outside makes for easy clean up.

{Ke$ha with her "Shake Your Money Maker" undies}

We are expanding our bridal line in the next couple of months. Our goal is to have a one stop shop for the bride and her entourage.

Spring Trend Report!

So I’m still adjusting to this whole time change - I won’t lie! It threw me for a major loop, but I’m having absolutely no problem adjusting my wardrobe to some new spring trends I’ve picked up on. That’s right, after you read this, it’s time to go shopping!

First I’m going to discuss a classic revival: wide leg pants. This updated version can be found in it’s original higher waistline, but also can be found just about everywhere are a normal rise. I feel like Farrah Fawcett is smiling down from heaven when I wear these, seriously, I just can’t help but smile.

1. 7 For All Mankind 2. St. John 3. DKNY

You can opt for the casual look and wear these fabulous dark wash denim wide leg jeans from 7 For All Mankind, or for a more professional look check out these great DKNY black wide leg pants. Contrary to black pair is my personal favorite - the off-white pants done by St. John. These are magical and what better time to wear them then now? Paired with some great neutral wedges, a plain top and some thought provoking jewelry...so Palm Beach! I love how the wide leg look when done right is so ultra-flattering. This trend better stick around for a while!

The next trend I’m loving is more of a popular color...orange! I know what some of you are thinking, “I don’t wear orange. I can’t pull off orange.” I was once similarly in the dark, but now I have seen the light! Literally, I actually CAN pull off a pretty shade of light orange. It’s a miracle, people! I’ve picked out my very favorite and very wearable orange options.

This DVF dress is hitting just about every trend I love right now, including orange! The neckline gives off a cool shirtdress vibe, while the sleeves are relaxed but have a great structure at the end. The belting at the waist gives you a flattering shape. The color is flattering, too, as it’s softer and more sophisticated than that bright crayon from your coloring box when you were 5.

1. Lotusgrace 2. Christian Louboutin 3. Parker
My next orange picks I love for being unique and putting a spring in my step! This Lotusgrace shift is simple but genius. On my own, I would probably be too afraid of pairing orange with turquoise, but it’s done beautifully here. As shown, a neutral shoe is the way to go! Speaking of shoes, my new covet are these fabulous Louboutin wedges. Wedges in the first place are possible my most favorite shoes ever, and these make it easy to incorporate orange in my life in baby steps, shall we say? Lastly, you will have tangerine dreams in this trendy ruffled Parker dress. It’s a perfect date dress and you can easily layer with it if it gets chilly at night. When I see this dress, I imagine a modern version of the fair scene from The Notebook...seriously, it’s weird, but I do!

My last trend is actually bittersweet. Before the tragedy in Japan had even happened I was picking out clothing with obvious Japanese inspiration. Tragedies like this truly put life in perspective and have really shown me that even in my shopaholic and fashion obsessed ways, nothing compares to the happiness my family brings me. So I’m dedicating this trend to all of the families in Japan. They are all in prayers.

Keeping family in mind, I actually found a really great diaper bag from Disney! I didn’t even know they made diapers bags, and trendy ones at that! The fun orange flowers are definitely Asian inspired and I like how grey was incorporated. It tones the bag down and makes it a great tote for everyday use. I don’t have a baby, but I would even use this bag - it’s so cute!

1. Leith 2. Ports 1961 3. Trina Turk

Moving along to clothes, I think this Leith top, paired with skinny fit pants or jeans and pumps is a sharp look. The volume and layering is down just right. Seriously, add a great little colorful leather clutch and this outfit can go out on a dinner date or our for drink with the girls. Ports 1961 has a fabulous little black dress that is different from the rest. It’s a great dress that shows off your figure, but doesn’t show too much. The sleeve drape flawlessly. You’re sure to turn heads for all the right reasons while wearing this, because let’s face it you make the dress sexy - not the other way around! Looking for a special dress for the warmer weather? One of my favorite designers, Trina Turk has done it again. She never fails of use color to make the world smile. The funky print of this tunic has so many exciting hues and swirls and detail, but still is totally wearable! The exaggerated sleeves replicate a kimono, but the shorter length makes up for the volume on top. And what’s that I spy? It’s orange! So with this dress, you’re nailing down two trends at once!

Lastly, this Sophie Theallet frock is so obviously modeled after the fabulous kimonos most of us have only seen in pictures. You can’t deny the structural beauty of this dress, and the great shape it take at the waist through the skirt. It’s truly angelic.

Featured Etsy Designer -- Jill of Marie Carleton! Plus a giveaway!

We have another FABulous Etsy designer on our hands. When we first came across the Heart Charm Bracelet in Red -- we fell right in love with Marie Carleton Jewelry on Etsy. Jill designs perfect little arrays of handmade jewels and custom creations. We look forward to sharing Jill with our readers and thrilled to be giving away the Editors' Pick from Marie Carleton! Read on for details and to see why we LOVE her shop. We think you will too!

{the beautiful designer herself, Jill of Marie Carleton}

{1} What made you begin your shop?
I’ve been making jewelry for as long as I can remember – I have memories of stringing necklaces in my aunt’s basement as a kid, learning how to work with sterling silver wire when I was in high school, hitting up the local bead shop with my sister when I was home for summer break from college… and it’s a hobby that I’ve always come back to whenever I’ve had some spare time.
It was just about a year ago when I found myself with some extra time on my hands and a great deal of inspiration, so I got to work.  My friends and coworkers loved everything I was making and before I knew it orders started rolling in.
I kept hearing that I needed to be on Etsy, so I decided to check it out and I’ve found it to be a brilliant forum for artists to connect with shoppers looking for unique goods!
{A fave of the designer Jill, the Gemstone Cascade Earrings, $65}
{2} What are some of your other favorite Etsy shops?
I find at least one thing on Etsy every day that I love.  These are just a handful of my favorite shops:

SealedwithKS: This is my sister's shop (jewelry must be in our blood).  She has an awesome eye for color and makes unexpectedly beautiful pieces.

ElizabethKelly: Amazing leather belts!

LaPlumeEthere: FABULOUS shoes that I've been eyeing for awhile now.  I'm definitely buying myself a pair soon!

Bluebirdheaven: Every girl needs one of these jewelry organizers!

{We LOVE the color of these Carnelian Hoops, $39}
{3} What is your favorite item currently in your shop?

There are a couple of pieces in my shop that I’m really into these days. I love the heart charm leather wrap bracelets and the gem encrusted heart necklaces. However, I think my all time favorite pieces are the

{cupcakeMAG pick: Amethyst Wrapped Heart Necklace in the perfect Spring color, $45}
{4} What is up next for you?
Looking forward to the spring and summer, I’ll be working on some gemstone flower pendant necklaces in all different styles and colors and also some colorful and asymmetrical gemstone necklaces.
One of my goals for the upcoming year is to learn some new jewelry making techniques; I’m especially interested in metalsmithing and am currently looking into workshops.  So, look for some really different pieces around summertime!

What We Love! Almay Intense i-Color Smokey i-Kit

By: Kim Solimini

As much as a LOVE shopping in Sephora and all the other big beauty products stores, sometimes I just want to try something new, not spend more than $10 and not have to go to the mall. That is when I wonder into the cosmetic section of any local drug store. I decided to pick up the new Almay Intense i-Color Smokey i-Kit. Kate Hudson is in the ads for this product and she always looks fab, so I thought I would give it a try.

These shadows come in shades to coordinate and accentuate your eye color. The packaging design is helpful to those who are just learning how to apply the new smokey look as well. The product was easy to apply and lasted all day! But even more impressive, the colors were beautiful and really gave my eyes that “pop” that I am always looking for.

I personally tried the “Green Eyes” version and the colors were beautiful. The other eye color packages were just as gorgeous!

Here are the specs straight from Almay:

  • expertly coordinated shades complement your natural eye color to maximize the intensity
  • lightweight powder formula applies smoothly and blends effortlessly
  • soft pearl finish
  • eye color is intensified and brightened
  • crease-proof
  • all day wear
  • hypoallergenic
  • ophthalmologist tested

Etsy Find: Tree and Kimball!

By: Kim Solimini

Two things I love in life: jewelry and Etsy. Combine the two and you have some pretty amazing handmade (sometimes one of kind) gems.

It is the best feeling when you stumble across a fabulous Etsy seller through some online browsing, and this was a find I just had to share.

Meet Tree and Kimball! The creator behind these designs is Lisa Bruemmer. Items from this gorgeous little shop have been featured in Lucky Magazine and a select few of these necklaces can be found at select Anthropologie stores.

This shop is filled with everything delicate and dainty, with a vintage flair! The pieces would be a great compliment to any outfit, and really adds that antique vibe!

These are some of my favorites:

Delana in a salmon hue $30.00

Alesta in pale pink $34.00 (Long necklaces are so fun!)

Serena in a silvery grey! $30.00

Theresa in pale pink $32.00

Nassim in buttercream $32.00 (One of my favs! So Classic)

Laudonia in deep aubergine $30.00 (Love the dark tone of this one)

Tree and Kimball also have some fabulous earrings and my favorites have to the Anouska $20.00. They remind me of little vintage chandeliers!

I have to say this is a seller I will be coming back to often to see what new items are added to this shop and to make some purchases for myself!!  I am already envisioning these necklaces with my wardrobe and every piece is pretty much a must have!

Top Nail Picks For Spring!

Did you know that wearing a bright, fresh nail polish color can improve your mood?  Okay fine, this isn't a proven fact but as far as I'm concerned it's true!  Besides, it's the perfect accessory to your spring wardrobe!  I confess, I am slightly obsessed with trying new colors, changing them often, and of course comparing favorites with my friends.  After years of this "research", I finally compiled my top nail colors.  I've got tons of favorites but here are my top 5 specifically for Spring!

My top 5 picks for spring nail colors.

1.  Perfect Pale Pink
My friend Sara and I have been searching for the perfect pale pink nail polish for years.  True story! They usually look perfect in the bottle but then go on practically clear.  We finally succeeded!! I introduce to you, Minimalistic by Essie.

It even looks good when you have no tan.  The best part? Buy a bottle and skip the professional manicure - it's pretty hard to mess up.  This color will be accompanying me to the beach this summer.

2.  Perfect True Red
My favorite true RED is "O'Hare and Nails Look Great" by OPI.  I love wearing this red when you are rocking a nautical look.  I love navy and white outfits in spring and summer, and this red would be the perfect accessory.  Besides, classic red nails are so chic, not to mention timeless, trend proof, and season proof too!

3. Perfect Coral
My pick for best coral for spring is "Cajun Shrimp" by OPI.  If you've ever read any recommendations for nail colors that go with your skin tone, one thing beauty editors usually agree on in that coral looks good on almost all shades of skin. So if you can't decide what color you want, this is the one to go with!

4. Perfect Pastel
"Nice is nice" by Essie will no doubt be my choice for Easter! This color is part of Essie's new spring collection, which is described as a "whimsical light lavender."  Pastel on your nails?? Pretty pretty please!!

5. Perfect Pink
When all you want is a simple, plain ole pink, I recommend "A Dozen Rosas" by OPI.  Maybe I just love this color because it looks like all the Cherry Blossoms blooming right now! To me, this is just a classic, pretty pink.

Once you have your favorite shade on, don't forget to use cuticle oil often! Cuticle oil is the best way to keep that manicure looking perfect for as long as possible!  My favorite is Solar Oil by CND but OPI Avoplex Cuticle Oil To Go also gets very good reviews.

Spring has sprung my friends- get your hands on these shades and you won't be sorry.  Keep your well manicured finger on the pulse of spring fashion and I'd say you've got a great start to a chic season.

cupcakeMAG LOVES Tori Spelling

Obviously we adore Tori Spelling for so many reasons - not just her FABulous style but also her Superhero ways. Tori is one inspiring cupcake for ladies everywhere as she shows us you can do it all! Even with everything she has going on - we were beyond thrilled to be able to get a chat in with the one & only, T!

{1} Last time we spoke you had a lot going on and can see not much has changed! You & Dean were working on your new Oxygen show as well as your book. Now, you have InvenTORI! What can you tell us about the latest projects keeping you busy?

Our store InvenTORI just opened in Sherman Oaks! Very excited. Its a home/lifestyle store. Antique personal furniture and products for women, men, children, bath, pets, garden, and kitchen that our family personally loves and uses. I am finishing my first party planning book called CelebraTORI which will be out Oct. 25th and our new Oxygen show Tori&Dean:sTORIbook Weddings starts airing April 6th. I'm also very excited for my new online magazine that will launch in April called Inspired Living by Tori Spelling. And, my new jewelry line MAVEN launches this spring at dept stores and is currently at Intermix. And... Just kidding. That's all! Ha ha. (For now)

{2} What inspired you to open InvenTORI? Was this something you had wanted to do for quite sometime?

I've collected antiques for years. My obsession outgrew our living space and that's when I decided I wanted to share my passion with others and literally share my inventor(i).

{3} You are also working on your latest book. Can you tell us about that?

I'm having the most amazing love affair with my latest book! Its my first party planning book called CelebraTORI. It takes the readers thru all the steps necessary to throw an amazing party whether its a intimate dinner party for 4 or a lavish event for 100. And tips to do it on a budget. Its filled with amazing photos, How To's, recipes, and my anecdotal stories that my readers have grown to know me for. Plus I take readers thru 4 complete parties. Its been an amazing experience! I get to craft, cook, bake, create, design and style. Can't wait for it to come out!

{4} Seriously, you are the queen of multi-tasking. It is beyond amazing everything you have accomplish and continue to do. We have to ask how do you do it all and actually sleep? Give us your supermom tips!

Sleeping is honestly not one of my best multi tasking skills. Its pretty hard to put my mind to sleep. I'm not great at taking time for myself. I give everything to my kids/husband/and work and then the me of it all sometimes takes a back seat. My goal is to start getting more quiet time for me at night when everyone goes to bed. Next challenge... Getting everyone to go to bed!

{5} We know you love to play party planner and are the hostess with the mostess! What are some of your personal party tips you can share for having the perfect party?

While I'll give ALL my tips in my new book I will share a couple. One - don't over extend yourself. Its great to create and dream big but be realistic about what you can actually pull off within your time frame and budget. Stick to recipes you've done before and ones that you know work. And, secondly, enjoy your own party. This is one I'm currently working on! I end up giving so much that by the time my party starts I'm too exhausted to actually have fun. So, enjoy your hard work!

{6} We also know you love DIY projects, crafts, and all the handmade fun. What is one of your favorites you have shared with Liam and Stella?

We love crafting in our house! Whatever we can make together is always the best because it keeps us interacting as a family. The kids are really into making their own playdough right now. We make it from scratch and its all natural. We add different flavors and colors to it and we have theme playdough parties. We did ice cream parlor the other day and in corner cut /tied off ziploc bags swirled the "ice cream" playdough into cones and cups and added sprinkles and pretended to serve customers. They loved it! Stella even serves in a mini apron!

{7} We have watched you on Home Sweet Hollywood decorate your houses with perfection. Is Interior Design another love of yours? What tips can you share when it comes to decorating a home, Tori style?

I love interior design. Its another huge passion of mine. I pick a couple main pieces that I LOVE and that I think make my room and then I decorate the room around them. I like my style and rooms to remain timeless. Rooms with colors and patterns I won't tire of in 5 years. And, family "coziness" is a huge factor into my design. I want it to look chic and stylish but all the work is pointless if at the end of the day my family and I can't be cozy in the room. So, if its Liam and Stella approved then I've done my job! And, let the little knick knacks come with time. I love doing a room and then whenever I'm at flea markets or estate sales finding little collectibles that'll look great in that room. This takes time but you end up with little cherished objects that you've collected from all over.

{8} We always ask, what is up next for you - you always out do yourself and I just can't imagine what else you could add to your plate but, do you have anything else you are currently or planning to work on?

Oops I might have answered that question in the first question. But, to add to that... We are currently filming season 6 of Tori&Dean:Home Sweet Hollywood and fans can see The McDermotts back in their living rooms this summer. I also will soon be starting my 4th memoir which will be out in 2012.

Make sure you tune in to sToribook Weddings next month and
stay-up-to-date on all things TORI!

See why we LOVE her? Oh, and besides the fact that she thinks "Cupcake ROCKS!"
