9PM – 10PM Complimentary Pink Elephant Cocktails

9:45PM Beyonce Satellite Feed Debuts her Music Video “Sweet Dreams”

10PM show

Where: Plunge Rooftop Pool Bar and Lounge at The Gansevoort South Beach Hotel

The evening kicked off with an exclusive screening of Grammy award-winning artist BeyoncĂ©’s music video“Sweet Dreams”. Over 800 of Miami’s top VIP’s and celebrities, including socialite and author Kelly Bensimonof “The Real Housewives of New York” along with “Transformers” producerMichael Bay and actress Perry Reeves, “Ms. Ari Gold,” from HBO’s Entourage, all previewed the 4-in-1 show from their private cabanas. Plunge transformed its rooftop pool and lounge into a starlit runway to debut swim and resort wear which ranged from flouncy, floral cover-ups to bold-hued, sexy geometric-inspired monokinis and hippie-chic mix-and-match bikinis.

Atop the Gansevoort Hotel, sat anxious fashionistas and press awaiting the new line of Swimwear by up and coming designers. Music playing over loudspeaker ranged Coldplay to Sweet Home Alabama, keeping the mood light and pleasurable while guests sipped on cocktails. The night started with the premier video by Beyonce and went straight into the four designer show.

The first designer, Keva J, was inspired by the Lion King, which she saw “at least a million times on Broadway”. Colors reminiscent of elephants, antelopes and snakes stampeded onto the runway. “I wanted to show the colors of elephants and elephant tusks, and a lot of lions.” Models walked down the runway with messy buns, which mirrored the lion manes of the desert. Geometric shapes from triangles to trapezoids were cut out of the swimwear, which added a little more dimension to the collection. The show ended with Keva Johnson coming out with Lion King-esqe dancers and waving to the guests.

The second two designers were from Miami and best friends. Liza + Tara Resort Wear. As soon as the Jamaican music started, flowy florals and floor length dresses made their way down the runway. “This collection was based on adventure for the chic and confident girl.” The floral cover-ups and shirt-dresses were complimented with flowers in the models hair and huge jewel tone necklaces around their necks. The designers-Liza Lamar and Tara Kunkel, were so cute-donning their own collection as they strutted across the runway.

The third show during the night was Jogo by Pooheh, a Parisian Designer that has spent the most of her life drifting around the world. “Everything is made in Bali-handmade, from the necklaces and bracelets, to the sandals.” The line was classic, yet elegant, with beach-like colors and light jersey dresses. “I wanted the collection to feel like you were going to the beach.” The designer- Pooneh Mohazzabi was so warm and welcoming giving both of us her card and complimentary bracelets.

The last show of the evening was from designer Tyler Rose- a rocker boho chic line called ‘Haute Indian Summer’. The music was rocking as the models came down the runway in fringe bikinis and Indian print headbands. Each of the models were wearing a form of cowboy boot-which the designer Nichole loves. “It [the collection] was inspired by Led Zeppelin, wandering gypsies, hippies and Woodstock.” The runway was filled with Missoni-esque prints. At the end of the show the gorgeous designer Nichole Carroll came out on the runway in a red strapless print dress, with fiery red hair. The night was filled with many different designs-from Serengeti Chic to Led Zeppelin inspired couture. It was a beautiful night in Miami and on the runway-a great way to kick of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Swim.

With a jammed packed house of photographers, esteemed retailers, Miami Beach tastemakers, and a slew of front row celebrity sightings, the L*Space by Monica Wise show was one not to be missed. With more than 500 guests in attendance photographers snapped images of MTV’s The City star Whitney Port and friend Roxy Olin as they waited anxiously for the show to begin. Alicia Shulman: A NAME WORTH KNOWING from the RING to the BLING

Most names don’t stick, but some names do,
Alicia Shulman is one of them.

We got the chance to meet & greet with the designer during Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Miami Swim. As we sat poolside at The Raleigh we realized she isn't just a down to earth jewerly designer but a dear friend of Cupcake Mag.

We first encountered Alicia Shulman while waiting in line for a fashion show at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Swim in Miami. We could not stop looking at her eye catching over sized beaded necklace (pictured below). It was that moment we knew our jewelry collection would be changed forever.

ABOUT ALICIA

(BIO below from Alicia Shulman, www.aliciashulman.com)

One might say Alicia’s designs began with cardboard and ribbon, telephone wire and a vigorous creative spirit as shoes, rings and party clothes came to life by the age of five. Embraced by a family of artists and dancers it was not surprising that Alicia’s young life matured with evocative and fanciful ideas.

Combining a degree in graphics design and love for fashion, Lecia was founded in the early eighties. The company, a pioneer of the handpainted and jeweled artwear era, was showcased nationwide in stores including Henri Bendel and seen on such icons as Cher, Olivia Newton John, and Lionel Ritchie.

Recently known for her work in sports photojournalism, Alicia’s images enjoyed worldwide exposure on magazine and book covers … until while on assignment in Mexico and Puerto Rico documenting the lifestyle of the fighter and immersed in the rich Latin culture, a new inspiration took hold. Taking its cue from the lush countrysides to the sea, combining semi precious stones and pearls with her instincts for color, composition, and texture … the first pieces were created.

WHO – WHAT – WEAR

With a press list & clients that astonished us (Lucky, Kate Spade stores nationwide, Fred Segal, Oprah, Elle, Hamptons,Ocean Drive, Life + Style, Travel + Leisure) and the list goes on to the runways (Luli Fama just last week) and celebs like Kelly RIpa, Sharon Stone, Tyra Banks, Vivica A Fox and Rachel Ray - we are amazed she hasn't been caught on the front pages of WWD but we know that will be in the future.

“What began as innocent flirtation with stones quickly escalated to a full blown love affair and business” says the designer. “The saying ‘all roads have led to this’ absolutely applies to me at this juncture”, she says, “and I have no intention of looking back!” – which we are so happy to hear as we have so much to look forward too.

We were lucky enough to be graced with a gift from the designer herself and choose a long necklace that can go from season to season and is somewhat a classic piece. The “Clovers” hand knotted necklace with a crisp sterling toggle is 36” long. The amazonite clovers is what drew our eye in along with riverstone, shell pearl and Swarovski crystal – we could sleep in it we love it so much. It retails at $225 and is worth every penny.

THE CLOVER NECKLACE

Take a peek at the designers website, www.aliciashulman.com, to learn more about her and what made out MUST HAVE list.

Cupcake Mag’s MUST HAVE List

It is hard to just pick a few, but these are the ones we just can’t go on without!

SCALLOP Bangle $105: The gold plated and enable bangle that opens comes in six colors.

CLEOPATRA Earring $135: The brushed gold earrings show off Czech crustals in vibrant eye popping colors making you feel just like Cleopatra.

ST.TROPEZ Cuff in Mint $195: The topaz Czech crystal and pink cabochon cuff opens with hinge and is gold plated with mint green enamel.

LINX Bracelet $195: The oxidized silver finish with black enamel and pave Czech cystal is a classic for anyone.

TINKERBELL Necklace $225: The faceted rock crystal necklace is hand knotted and strung along string with a crisp sterling toggle. It is 36” long and is a delicate one of a kind piece.

The collection, retailing from $90-$600 consist of bold vibrant pieces – earrings, cuffs and necklaces which include the signature mini lariat which all incorporate semi precious stones like fluorite, blue opal, aquamarine and chrysoprase. The pieces are available online as well as a handful of stores which you can view on her website. Make sure you don’t just buy one!

CUPCAKE MAG Q & A with Alicia Shulman

CM: What is your inspiration for the latest collection? What inspires you?

AS: I'm always seeking a state of relaxation and equate that with being by the water. My mind wanders back summers spent on lake in Maine until age 18, lobster dinners on our picnic table with bibs and red and white checked placemats. The ease, the simplicity, the beauty of it all.In adulthood I gravitate to and love the ocean be it Mexico, Caribbean, The Hamptons.I must have found a clever way to visit these places I crave more often by developing a resort jewelry line! So what inspires me in large part? Water, water, water, color color color. In this and every collection I always incorporate something(s) that are sea inspired. Collections always reflects both sides of my personality: glitzy meets down to earth, like St. Tropez meets the Riviera Maya with its jungle atmosphere and unspoiled beaches.

CM:On your path to starting, were there many major challenges in the beginning?

AS:The business has been a challenge and tremendous learning curve from the get and continues to be. You find that everything that can go wrong does. Now I am aware of most of the possible glitches and can only do my best to not assume things will go as planned and do everything possible to fight that before it has a chance of happening. I've had huge stone orders come in from china for Kate Spade the wrong color, the wrong size etc. Growing to the next level is my current focus and challenge. The groundwork has been laid, the PR is there, the brand has been defined and accepted within its market and now I'm ready to take it further but its a very tricky and common dilemma for a small business...especially because I choose to not work with the department stores.

CM:Do you have a favorite stone or material to work with?

AS: I gravitate towards the luscious stones that are usually blues and greens incl: chalcedony, chrysoprase, blue opal, larimar, also different shades of coral and turquoise of course.

CM:What is your vision for your brand and collection?

AS:I have a vision for my brand of growing slowly and carefully, always keeping my flavor, and perhaps expanding into caftans with a removable jeweled broach centerpiece, sarongs, beach bags. I am open to future license deals, collaboration with a swimwear designer, anything that feels right and won't dilute the brand.

CM: What elements from your surroundings do you interpret and use in your designs?

AS: WATER WATER - Anything I happen to see that has an interesting graphic or coloring can spark something in my head. At the Raleigh pool this week I was obsessed with the base of a palm tree right by me, a very woven graphic, trying to figure out how to translate this very organic and gorgeous thing so that it can work. It’s very hard to get nature and its subtle colors just right!

CM: Describe your own personal style:

AS: I think I'm most comfortable pared down - slacks or jeans and a long cardigan. A great simple solid dress, great heels or sandals, and a statement accessory, usually an Alicia piece...

CM: What’s your favorite item in your closet?

AS: Right now I have a favorite dress – a deep midnight navy heavy silk BCBG cocktail dress that can go anywhere. I'm petite and curvy and this piece drapes so beautifully and ties tight with sash at the waist with a little bit of subtle ruffling all down the front. I wore it to Gotham magazines Christmas party in NY.

Chatting with Kourt

Kourtney Kardashian is not just a reality TV star, she has dreams too. The sexy and funny fashionista sounds off on positive energy, fashion and why Miami is just...AMAZING!

We were more then thrilled to have a little chat on the phone today with the one and only, Ms. Kourtney Kardashian (she really doesn't even need an introduction).

Kourtney always wanted to be a fashion designer so her love for DASH and fashion comes naturally. In hopes to one day have a fashion line with her sisters (we see it in the future) the girls very different styles yet similar ideas would give us a line worth waiting a few seasons for.

With fans constantly giving their input on where a new DASH store should open (from New Jersey to South Africa) they were down to Miami and New York. So why DASH MIAMI? As you saw in last season of Keeping up with the Kardashians, both Kourtney and Khloe had recently broken up with their boyfriends (both living in NY) and didn't want the negative energy (can you blame them?) so they opted for the sexy beaches of Miami - we think it was a great choice and they seem to have had an amazing time - we will all have to watch and see!

Kourtney couldn't get enough of the beach view every morning & to be able to gaze out her large windows and look straight into the ocean - "It was really a great time - doing our own thing, newly single, new city, new store - It was a rush of energy." Kourtney seemed more than thrilled over her stay in Miami and can't wait to get back - we could almost feel her smile over the phone.

So if your in the Miami area, we asked Kourtney where we might go to eat - she suggested Prime.One.Twelve - She said we will "just die" over the macaroni and cheese, sweet mashed potatoes, and meatballs. We have taken her advice & already made a reservation.

So what's next for Kourtney.......
Another KUWTK season is in the talks but in the meantime the next mission is DASH LA -- Kourtney hasn't even looked at locations yet but is thinking Melrose but definitely a DASH LA is in the future - so get excited!

As we await the many new ventures (we are sure there will be plenty) from the Kardashian Dolls make sure you all tune in on August 16th @ 10pm to the super new summer season of
Kourtney and Khloe Take Miami on the on and only E!. It definitely should have high priority on your TiVo.

RENI LANE: NO LONGER UNDER THE RADAR

Text: Casi Densmore-Koon
Images: Randy Brooke/Wire Image

WHAT: RENI LANE at Citrine
WHEN: Tuesday June 16th @ 10PM

RENI LANE: OUR MUSICAL OBSESSION

Basically devasted over not making Reni Lane's performace at Citrine last week we were more then excited to chat with her (via email) in hopes that we can grace this talented young spirit one day soon - she told us not to worry as there will be many more shows in the future.

BURNING Q & A SESSION WITH RENI
Reni Lane was born in a small town in VA but it didn't take her long to make it in the BIG CITY of New York.

When did your love affair with music begin? I have to admit my love affair with music was solidified through Disney movies and characters, particularly Ariel from "The Little Mermaid." As a kid it really mystified me how Ursula took away Ariel's voice (with that memorable melody) and used it as a spell - to me this showed that music had some sort of divine power and I wanted to live in that world.

Were you always fascinated with the piano or did you consider other musical instruments?
There is a romantic, personal quality to the piano that I will always adore. Growing up I loved the idea of classical composers like Mozart or Debussy sitting at the piano by candle light hammering it out, just the human and their instrument. But I don't musically discriminate per say. I love a challenge and every instrument I come across I want to get my hands on and figure out, whether it's flute, trombone or guitar or something electronic like Ableton (all stuff I've played at one point).

What is the biggest difference between UK and the US?
Well musically speaking, the UK is much smaller so I feel there is more community support in the unknown artist circuit there. An upcoming band can tour many places easily, get the word out, and receive more attention compared to a band trying to do the same thing in the vast expanse of say, the US midwest. But on the other hand I think the UK musical taste is more discriminating - which makes things harder, but helps the best rise to the top. I don't think there's a British version of Hannah Montana, but maybe I am wrong!

What is on you ipod now?
New stuff I have is Kings of Leon, Regina Spektor, and Bat for Lashes. Artists always in heavy rotation are My Bloody Valentine, Neil Young, Madonna, and David Bowie.

If you could do a duet with anyone, who would it be?
That's a hard question because I think a lot of duets work best with an interesting combination of voices. For instance, the artist I admire most might not mix with my voice that well - although hands down I would do anything just to be near Natasha Khan from Bat For Lashes, I have quite a musical crush on her!

What do we have to look forward to in the future?
Aside from constantly promoting my record online and in the real world (out Sept. 15th on Custard/Uni Motown), right now I'm deep into raising a killer rock band to "back me" on tour, though I really see my band and I as one unit, not separate entities. I want people who hear my music not just to love the album, but to be blown away by the live show. The main thing I want people to take away from the show is that they had the most fun they've ever had at a concert.

Who are your biggest inspirations when it comes to your music making?
Any band that can change and rise above what they're "known," for are an inspiration to me, like PJ Harvery, Coldplay, and TV on the Radio. I also may be the last person in the world who still loves Bono. I think his lyrics are amazing and his voice has kept mutating and maturing on a very interesting sonic path that always keeps me guessing and wondering...how does he sing that?

I remember once reading in Nylon Magazine that you were a fan of Topshop (we are too!) - do you have a favorite designers? what can we catch you wearing?
Fashion is all about customizing your own look, and I end up tailoring or repurposing pieces to my own taste, as well as mixing high and low fashion. My favorite designer of the moment is Erin Fetherston. I just worked with her on her new video look book and all the outfits are amazing! I'm a big fan of pairing one of her dresses with Doc Martens, or Apollo Braun with a simple American Apparel skirt and a vintage purse.

WOMANKIND: THE ONE DRESS YOU CAN DEPEND ON (SERIOUSLY!)

We would like to announce the launch (officially!) of the One Dress website, www.one-dress.com. “The One-Dress Womankind Can Depend On” dress project has been officially dubbed.

About THE ONE-DRESS

Collectively designed and created with the input of over 1000 women from across the globe via online social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, etc (we never realized our inspiration would create a dress. Eighteen months ago women on the social networks were asked to share their thoughts about their dreams, lifestyles, etc that relate to one simple and truly important piece of clothing – the one-dress!
These social women shared their likes and dislikes in colors, fabrics, necklines and season and that is how the one-dress was conceived, incubated and now released into the fashionista universe via their website.

Constructed of 100% silk knit jersey – the one-dress can be wrapped and dresses in as many ways as us fashionistas can imagine. Who can we thank for the one-dress? Creative Director Malcolm Harris of Mal Sirrah, Inc. founded the one-dress project.

Fashionista Reminder: Borrowed yet?

Text: Dwayne Knight
Edited by: Casi Densmore-Koon

By now, I am sure everyone has heard of Bag, Borrow, or Steal; the luxury to rent masterminds that (newly changed the name to AVELLE) allow you to borrow designer bags and accessories on a weekly or monthly basis. If you haven't heard of the Netflix for bags let us help you get "in the know." For those of you who are on top of your fashionista game let us remind you.

THE PHENOMENON
This is a great website for those fashionistas in all of us who want to be seen with these great bags and the sense of the status they bring. It all started when the
founders decided celebrities, socialites, and editors shouldn't be the only ones (we agree!) to have the excitement of carrying bags such as Fendi, Louis Vuitton, Prada,
Chanel, or any other fabulous label.

The process is easy. Visit their website, www.bagborroworsteal.com and follow
the steps below:

(some text taken from BBS website)

HOW IT WORKS:

1.Decide if you'd like to become a Bag Borrow or Steal member OR rent as a Guest.
(Members enjoy our lowest rental rates plus other privileges outlined below.)

2.Browse their exciting collections and click the borrow button on the items you'd like to rent. (They even email you when a price has dropped on a favorite item that has been added to your wish list)

3.Rent by the week, the month or for as long as you'd like! There's never a late
fee. And you receive special savings when you borrow for 3 months at a time!

4.Borrow more than one item! (our favortie part because you just can't have enough) For the first three months of membership, you can borrow up to three items at a time and one of those may be from their couture collection. After three months, you can borrow as many as five items. At six months your borrowing becomes unlimited - unlimited items and unlimited couture! Special guests can continue to borrow up to 3 items at a time.

Out with the old in with the new! When you're ready for something new, just return the item and tell us what to send next!

BEST OF ALL:

If you fall in love with an item, you can "steal" it from them!
Bag, Borrow or Steal will sell you any item you're renting. They will evaluate the
accessory's age, condition and how easy it will be to replace and let you know
if the item is available for purchase and, if appropriate, a price. If you
decide to make a purchase, they'll bill the credit card they have on file and
the accessory is yours to keep.

You can search their collections by style, designer, color, trends, or size. You can even view the bag size and how it would look when being carried! If
you are obsessed with Sex and the City, there is also a section dedicated to
the movie and items inspired by the characters. You can borrow or steal that exact
Timmy Woods Eiffel Tower Bag seen in SATC!

PRICE POINT:
Memberships start at $9.95 a month and go up to $59.95 For a full year plus
rental price of item.

CUPCAKE MAG LIST TO BORROW:
Just a few examples of the fabulous bags and accessories you can
take advantage of and bring out your inner diva!

Gucci Babouska Large Shoulder Bag

Chloe 'Myrte' Acetate Sunglasses

Chanel Veau Velours Clutch

Kenneth Jay Lane Bib Nugget Necklace

Prada Vintage Oversized Clutch

End note:
We are convinced that &6.00 a week is quite reasonable, about what any hard working gal spends on one and half lattes at Starbucks. We say keep the company's tagline in mind "Guilty pleasure, without the guilt" if you need the extra push to join.
