NYFW: Custo Barcelona, Always Exciting

CUSTO SUMMER FESTIVAL is the most appropriate name for the new proposals in the spring-summer collection 2011 from Custo. Positive energy, freshness and free-spiritedness pervades both the daywear collection, Custo Everyday, and the eveningwear collection, Custo Let’s Party.

CUSTO EVERYDAY includes comfortable easywear, with lots of personality and colours, to create whole looks loaded with Custo DNA. Denim is the star of this collection, to wear with slouchy, baggy boho silhouettes. Without forgetting the brightest and most typically Custo colours, the palette this season includes pale, dusty and nude shades and military colour ranges, combined with embroidery, appliqué and patchwork. Innovation in the fabric department with linen, jersey for a cool, natural country look: tricot waistcoats, sweaters and scarves with very open weave to look like holes and macro crochet; dresses and loose shirts in guipure and pieces in viscose. The graphics take two forms: arty geometry and colourful, more figurative microprints.

CUSTO LET’S PARTY features sexy looks, shoulder pads, generous necklines, knee-length pieces, and asymmetrical, slightly oversized pieces. Dark colours are the stars of the eveningwear collection, mixed with metallic shades: gold, bronze, copper, mercury and rusts, combined with electric and vibrant tones. The silks are sand washed or overdyed to give a vintage effect, less sophisticated than those in the Lowxury collection. Graphic colourful velour mixed with eco leather or paillettes along with multicoloured digital prints and pixel effects flood the garments in the eveningwear collection.

LOWXURY (LOW + LUXURY) is a collection for evening and special occasions at competitive prices in flattering, sensual shapes that skim over the body. Of particular note are the colourful mini-dresses and the tops with fringes and lots of movement, worn with skirts and shorts. Jackets and waistcoats complete an outfit that's perfect for every occasion. The brightest colours in the Custo palette are mixed with earth tones, khaki, sand and black and with bright appliqués in passementerie and guipure lace. Fuchsia, jade, aquamarine and mauve sparkles enhance these original creations. And the fabrics? These are fluid chiffons and silk satin with wild, natural-coloured prints. An ode to perforations that allow a glimpse of other prints and materials, even naked skin.

Look forward to Custo Barcelona F/W 2010 Collection

We can hardly wait to see the Custo Barcelona Fall/Winter 2010 Collection – especially after last season. Lucky for us – one of the design duos, Custo Dalmau shared some thoughts (and sketches!) of what is to come this season.

Cupcake Mag: It has been quite some time since the first printed t-shirts by Custo Barcelona - what is the secret to your brand's success?

Constantly re-thinking the creative process to produce designs that are new, exciting and representative of the Custo Barcelona DNA.

What was your inspiration for the collection this season?

Inspiration came from the beauty of precious gems and jewels.

Can you describe the collection in a few words?

Chic, sensual and adventurous.

Is Barcelona still your favorite city to live?

Yes. Barcelona has the energy and excitement that keeps the company growing.

What is the next big step for Custo Barcelona?

We are launching our children’s line for FW 2010/11, which is a big step for the brand. It is called CUSTO GROWING, and is a huge endeavor for Custo Barcelona, especially when other brands are downsizing. Like the adult line, GROWING features fun, flirty and colorful prints for girls and boys. There will be skirts, pants, jackets and t-shirts available.

Stay tuned for full coverage on the show in February!

a look back at CUSTO BARCELONA: LIGHTNESS AND MOVEMENT AT NEW YORK FASHION WEEK

Images Courtesy of ASI

After twelve years showing at the Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week, Custo Barcelona presented the Spring 2010 collection, for the first time at the largest of the venues at Bryant Park, The Tent, before a crowd of 1,000+ members of the press, opinion leaders, celebrities and VIP's.

Named "Air Show", Custo Barcelona's collection has been built around the concepts of movement and lightness. The materials used are so light that designer Custo Dalmau would talk rather about yarns instead of fabrics. Most of them have been through a perforation process, providing a certain transparency to the material and clothes. Behind this collection there is an intense investigation work not only about the fabric qualities but also about the use of graphic and colour, which are the brand DNA, and have been renewed in a unexpected way.

The results of all this experimentation will be delivered to the stores through Custo Barcelona's new line, Lowxury. This line is composed by pieces directly taken from the daring ideas in the catwalk so any woman in the world will be able to enjoy them and use them in their everyday lives.

Many celebrities have wanted to share with Custo Dalmau this moment among them: Kenan Thompson, Actor - Saturday Night Live, Bryan Greenberg, Actor, Mark Indelicato, Actor- Ugly Betty, Miss Jay, Judge - America's Next Top Model, Kristen Dalton, Miss USA, Stefania Fernandez, Miss Universe, Federico Castelluccio, Actor-The Sopranos, Amerie, Singer , Actress, Carlos Leon, Actor, Melody Thornton, Singer - The Pussycat Dolls, Tinsley Mortimer, Socialite, Adam Bertrand, Actor - The Beautiful Life, Miss Teen USA, Stormi Bree Henley, Lothar Mattaus, Former Soccer Player, Adam Green, Singer, Olivia Palermo, TV Personality - The City, Turner Cody, Musician, Johannes Hubl, Male Supermodel, Monique Stateena, America's Next Top Model Cycle 11.
