This is a big year for Nicholas K. If you remember, last September we watched the show as they shared the runway with Mara Hoffman and Whitney Eve. This year it will their first EVER show at the new Lincoln Center venue and will also mark the first time Nicholas K will show in their very own time-slot. No more sharing the runway!
On September 9th, the designer Nicholas Kunz and her brother/business partner Christopher Kunz will show their collection at Lincoln Center with Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. This season, Nicholas’ strong utilitarian inspired collection takes on a rugged but avant-garde military vibe infused with dusty, earth color tones and a modern spin on classic looks. Keeping the tough and strong nature of army attire, new textures were used this season, including sand-washed cotton velour and a puckered cotton voile, in order to lighten up the feeling of the clothes while providing a layered, draped look. The line implements a military color palette consisting of rich army greens and browns, creams and navy blues to offer more transitional options. For women, the collection has updated some traditional patterns by adding striped checks and interesting combinations like a woodland and fog camouflage while mixing in olive drab outerwear that highlights the military feel of the collection.
For men, sheer basics and scoop neck shirting provide a light, spring feel. Jackets and sweaters were focal points in both collections with contrasting patched fatigues and oversized hoods throughout. By inserting transitional pieces, such as trench coats that have removable hoods and sleeves and washed chocolate leathers, this collection offers multiple ways for the pieces to be worn while providing statement layering essentials.
Light cotton berets with hand-sewn leather trimming as well as scarves and bags in accentuating colors give the collection a refined, nomadic feel that fits with the militaristic tone of the offering and through an eyewear collaboration for custom made, Gemini aviator sunglasses in custom rose blush and tinted blue mirrored lenses, gives you an overall feeling of sophisticated, polished military attire.
Since launching their women’s line in Fall of 2003, with men’s following in 2006, Nicholas Kunz and her brother and business partner, Christopher Kunz, have continued to deliver a downtown city edge to their customer base. Known for their trademark traditional quality and design with modern twists, the brand strives to deliver unique products, which will remain timeless wardrobe staples. In 2009, Nicholas & Christopher were inducted as members of the CFDA, marking a pivotal moment for the brand. Nicholas K is sold in over 100 retail stores worldwide.
